I had a fellow coach describe me once as a “Bad-ass”– When expanding upon it she said I was able to authentically connect with the CEO all the way down to the front-line leader, helping each person make meaningful progress and create an immediate impact. Not only was I stunned and grateful for her compliment... the description of “Bad-ass” makes me smile. It brings me back to my days of playing college lacrosse…carrying a stick, driving down the field, firing the shot …and what I am most proud of from that time was that I set the record for the most assists in a season which held up for the next 10 years. I am no longer the captain, I am now the coach…and for me it has always been about the power of the assist.
Why do I get up every morning and do what I do? I believe you get out of this world what you are willing to put into it…and as a coach I make a difference every day. I enjoy investing in both the leaders of today and the leaders of tomorrow – coaching CEOs to college scholars. The world is complex and in need of leaders who can partner with others and create solutions instead of just fixing problems. As I help each individual, there is a ripple impact to others. I get to Pay It Forward…Exponentially!

The Light in the Dark
I was drawn to these two photographs at an art fair as they perfectly represent my purpose and my work as a coach. As I approached the photos, I saw award-winning Photographer, Radim Schreiber's note that fireflies are the light in the dark, showing him the path. I could not leave the art fair without buying these two images and connecting with Radim to get his permission to share these photos with my coaching clients.
The "Reflections" photo signifies the important work in building self-awareness and reflecting on one's purpose, finding the spark behind fear recognized as life. The "Path" photo symbolizes the purposeful progress that follows, which is fueled by the spark, towards the future one wants to create.
I started Spark Coaching years ago at the same time that I was running a coaching practice for a consulting firm. I wanted coaching to be accessible to anyone regardless of their leadership level or company sponsorship for coaching support. I wanted to structure coaching programs in an affordable way for individuals who were seeking to transform their lives.
I chose the name of the company based on my own life purpose and inspired from a poem by David Whyte that speaks to the "spark" that lies in all of us which only needs to be ignited and fanned into a flame.

OUT ON THE OCEAN
In these waves I am caught on shoulders lifting the sky each crest breaks sharply and suddenly rises in each steep wall my arms work in the strong movement of other arms the immense energy each wave throws up with hand outstretched grabs the paddle the blades flash lifting veils of spray as the bow rears terrified then falls with five miles to go of open ocean the eyes pierce the horizon the kayak pulls round like a pony held by unseen reins shying out of the ocean and the spark behind fear recognized as life leaps into flame always this energy smoulders inside when it remains unlit the body fills with dense smoke. - David Whyte |
Building the Leader's of Tomorrow
I have a passion for coaching that extends beyond today's leaders to the youth and future leaders of our world. I am a member of the Boettcher Foundation - where I have the privilege to coach to college scholars, fellows, and alumni through their Coaching Corps. I am active in children’s education; including starting an experiential learning program, coordinating the Destination Imagination program which encourages creativity and problem solving in young minds, and directing an annual school Musical exposing students to the beauty and importance of the arts.
Part of the proceeds from Spark go to support scholarships for kids to experience Outward Bound. Outward Bound provides learning, character development, and lessons in leadership and teamwork that are life-changing. I believe in the value of experiential learning and the rejuvenation and results achieved through coaching.
